TOPO! software is fun and easy to use. In addition to printing maps, you can easily generate profiles that show you distance and elevation gain and loss. It is a great planning tool for trips or to display your trips after you return.
The 3-D animated fly-though feature enables you to fly along a route you have drawn as it winds and climbs to your destination. Add latitude / longitude or UTM grids to use your maps with a GPS. You can also use your GPS to download your waypoints and routes right onto the map.
Geocachers can download GPX files and print maps with cache details to seek out treasures. With Adventure Paper (sold separately), you can make waterproof prints of your maps on a regular inkjet printer.
